Who We Are
Let's get one thing out of the way first… We have no business running a tech company. We are restaurant owners, designers and lovers of food who started a tech company to support local businesses instead of charging the 30%. But we'd rather be making pizzas.
Tasty Local is a marketing platform built to connect real humans with the local food made by real humans. We charge restaurants a fair rate, promote creatives & bloggers and work to engage communities and the people who live in them. Our hope is to support local industry, eat good food and have a great time doing it.
Our Story
Our journey began in the winter of 2020 when we had just opened the doors to our first restaurant. A Tiki Bar in the glorious city of Hamilton. Three months later our doors were closed due to a pandemic and we needed an online ordering solution.
As a startup, we couldn't part with 30% of our profits to third-party apps, and needed full access to our customer information to build our core base. We tried Shopify, WordPress & Squarespace… all of them failed because of our high volume, limited inventory oven. So we built our own.
Then friends wanted it, then friends of friends, and pretty soon we were building online solutions across North America. But the question remained—what's the point of a website if no one knows about it?
And so the journey of Tasty Local began. The inspiration came on a trip to San Diego where we heard of incredible Mexican food but didn't know anyone locally to help. So we spent hours looking at recommendations from bloggers and influencers, finding which spots had specials & events and then how to order directly from them.
After that week we thought "imagine if there was a single site that could do all this"... and now there is.
